This is going to be a busy holiday weekend in San Francisco, folks!

Carnaval starts Saturday and the big parade is on Sunday in the Mission. The Golden Gate Bridge party starts at Crissy Field on Sunday morning and goes into Sunday night with special fireworks after dark.

Just remember, as much as I love people, when there's that many of you I get kind of nervous.

And all that noise kind of makes me a little uneasy, too.

So if we're going out to make the scene, let's just do it for a short time. I'll be happy hearing you tell me all the highlights when you get back! OK?

A Little Food for Thought

As dog owners, we each believe that our dogs are super awesome and they're like, the best dog EVER! And somehow our dogs always reflect a little part of us. In our eyes, they're pretty much superdogs. But what about the real superdogs? I don't mean the bomb sniffers or service dogs (though they're definitely the real heroes in my book) but I'm talking about dogs that fight crime on the daily!

Krypto the Super Dog & Ace the Bat Hound

Liv seriously..what is this blog even about? Well, as a fan of our classic super heroes and seeing as Batman and Superman both have their own dogs..I'm wondering what kind of super powers I'd want my dog to have? She would definitely have a cape - a black one. And I'm pretty sure she'd have the ability to make things appear, like her own $60 bags of food for example ;)

Just for fun.. what superpowers would you want you and your dog to have? And don't be too hasty...think about what type of crime you would be fighting too! Dog-fighters? Backyard breeders? Drug lords!? Oh MY!

Just remember, all around the Bay Area that green grass is going dry. Be careful of Foxtails when going out for a hike or even walking thru the parks.

Foxtails can hurt me and be expensive for you!

This ain't no Siesta, it's a Fiesta! ..Judging by his ears that is!

Siesta is a Muttville foster who recently paid High Tail Hotel a visit! He came off as shy, pretty calm and a little nervous being in a new place. But once he hit the play area, HE ROCKED IT! Playful Siesta added a little more life to our party and will soon one day bring the fiesta to his new family!

Take a doggie CPR and First Aid class. If your dog needs medical attention, certain techniques could increase your dogs chances of survival! For us at High Tail, having that knowledge helps us every single day and provides us with peace of mind. Sometimes we notice things that people normally wouldn't and it helps to keep our dogs safe at all times.

We would like to thank all of the mother's out there today! For the puppy moms, we thank you for bringing your dogs through our door. Without them, our lives would not be as fulfilling. Truth be told! And we don't just mean the doggie mamas of the world but all mothers. Mother's Day is something we can all agree on and today we all have someone to be thankful for!

Boxer Brains!

So if you think our jobs are fun now.... you really have no idea. Until you've experienced high levels of Boxer Brainiacs, you haven't experienced nothin yet! Instead of Picture of the Week, I thought I'd share all the photos (that I could find) of our beloved Boxers.

Introducing...

Monte Woo - 3yr old equipped with the most loveable love handles.

Now....I can NOT forget Jasper. How can he not put a smile on your face and/or make you chuckle?

And finally Kobe - the Boxer that could make bring you all the joy in the world with just one look! Also, he LOVES spray cheese..you know, from the can.

To all of our Boxers that I've missed today, we have all the love for you! And due to Boxer brains, you will not remember this tomorrow :)

Coyotes in our City

A couple years ago my friend Reed and I decided to hit Glen Canyon to take the dogs on their weekend adventure. This was my first time at Glen Park and having recently moved to San Francisco I was grateful to get away into the small forests that our city provides us. That day my friend had her three dogs with her. I had my own pup and a foster. My dog, Vasa had disappeared of course.. she likes to explore independently. Excited that my dog with nothing but mediocre recall (at the time) came back, I saw this beautiful Shepherd-looking pooch following her. What I didn't realize was that Vasa, while wiggling out of excitement, was so proud of herself for leading a coyote back to our group! She's a real smart girl... (sigh). Considering our females were alphas, and all of our dogs were pretty high energy, we grabbed all five as fast as we could and just kind of stood there! The coyote stared at our group and decided we weren't worth his time..so he went back home.

Though we had a "safer" run-in with a coyote, we've all got to be very aware of our coexistence with these awesome creatures! Coyotes tend to be on the shy side and become aggressive mainly due to protecting their pups. Coyotes have been seen all over our city - The Presidio, Golden Gate Park, Bernal Heights, Glen Park, Diamond Heights, McLaren Park, Twin Peaks and Lake Merced. That's a pretty broad area indeed!

Animal Care and Control has some good advice in case you ever have an encounter:

1. NEVER feed a coyote - this can put your whole group in danger. This can lower their fear of humans and heighten their expectations for food .

2. When you encounter a coyote, make loud noises, wave your arms and you can throw something in their direction but don't hit them!

3. Keep your dogs on leash and avoid active coyote areas.

4. Avoid taking children to active coyote areas and never leave them unattended to play!

These are all things we can do to contribute to to the well-being of coyote habitats and our coexistence. Project Coyote is working with ACC & Welfare Commission to brainstorm on coyote management. Project Coyote also offers educational programs as well as information on their website.
